5 – The Experience of Unity in the Early Church – 10/27 – 11/02

This week’s lesson – The Experience of Unity in the Early Church

“And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers” (Acts 2:42, NKJV).

Church unity was an important ingredient in the early church. It was one of the ingredients that helped propel the gospel after the ascension of Christ. To the church in Ephesus, Paul emphasized the importance of unity in Christ and encouraged Christians there to “keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace” (Eph. 4:3).

Read about it, think about it, and let’s discuss it this Sabbath.

4 – The Key to Unity – 10/20 – 10/26

This week’s lesson – The Key to Unity

“Having made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His good pleasure which He purposed in Himself, that in the dispensation of the fullness of the times He might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven and which are on earth—in Him” (Ephesians 1:910, NKJV).

“The Bible sets before us a model church. They are to be in unity with each other, and with God. When believers are united in Christ the living vine, the result is that they are one with Christ, full of sympathy and tenderness and love.” –Ellen G. White, Pastoral Ministry, pp. 267, 268.

“The cause of division and discord in families and in the church is separation from Christ. To come near to Christ is to come near to one another. The secret of true unity in the church and in the family is not diplomacy, not management, not a superhuman effort to overcome difficulties—though there will be much of this to do—but union with Christ.” –Ellen G. White, The Adventist Home, p. 179.

Read about it, think about it, and let’s discuss it this Sabbath.

3 – That They All May Be One – 10/13 – 13/19

This week’s Lesson – That They All May Be One

“ ‘I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me’ ” (John 17:2021, NKJV).

Satan had so successfully painted a picture of God that resembled his own attributes that humans worshiped Him as a vengeful dictator more than an omni-benevolent Lord. So Jesus shows up to fix that, and by His life and ministry He reveals the true character of God because of His intimacy with Him. This oneness between Father and Son is thematic throughout John 17, but Jesus goes further in His prayer, including His disciples in that unity, praying “that they may be one, as we are” (verse 11).

Read about it, think about it, and let’s discuss this coming Sabbath at 10:00 AM.

2 – Causes of Disunity – 10/6 – 10/12

This week’s lesson – 10/6 – 10/12

“ ‘The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding’ ” (Prov. 9:10, NKJV).

“How sad that so many churches misrepresent the sanctifying influence of the truth, because they do not manifest the saving grace that would make them one with Christ, even as Christ is one with the Father! If all would reveal the unity and love that should exist among brethren, the power of the Holy Spirit would be manifest in its saving influence. In proportion to our unity with Christ will be our power to save souls.”
-Ellen G. White, “The Work Before Us,” Review and Herald, April 14, 1903, p. 7.

Read about it, think about it, and let’s discuss this Sabbath morning at 10:00 AM.

1 – Creation and Fall – 9/29 – 10/5

This week’s lesson – 9/29-10/5

Then [God] brought [Abraham] outside and said, ‘Look now toward heaven, and count the stars if you are able to number them.’ And He said to him, ‘So shall your descendants be.’ And he believed in the Lord, and He accounted it to him for righteousness” (Genesis 15:56, NKJV).

At the very beginning of everything, God introduced stewardship through the Sabbath, thus bringing true unity. The Godhead was united when they made the decision to create humans, as Scripture states, “ ‘Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness’ ” (Gen. 1:26, NKJV). They were united in Their creation of the world. So the story began for Adam and Eve. God united them both into one family. Even the animals were created in pairs so that they could be united as the same kind.

Read about it, think about it, and let’s discuss it this coming Sabbath at 10:00 AM.
